Here's a New Foal Training Tip for You

Joe Say's...

Teach your foal of age day 1 to 14, to give you their legs, foot, and balance up to stand quietly now and when they are older!

Standing on near side of foal facing side of foal at shoulder, place your left arm under neck and chest, hold firmly to support foal and keep him still. Bend and slightly lean over your foal's back with your upper body to further control him and keep him/her from rearing up on you. Then with your right hand pick up your foal's right front leg and hold until foal stands quietly with his/her leg being held up. Then put that foot down and pick up your foal's right hind foot with your right hand. Remembering to hold firm under his/her neck-chest and keep applying a slight amount of your body weight to his back/withers. Hold up his right hind until he again stands still. Then put it down and praise foal by rubbing him all over. Repeat in the same way on the foal's other side. Repeat this each time you enter the mare's stall to feed her and inspect the foal. Your Farrier and your foal will thank you..
